In each big city there are place that are obligatory for tourists. Here is Moscow selection.

1.Red Square. It is the center and the heart of Moscow.
2.The Kremlin. It is an ancient fortress right next to the Red Square. Appeared in13th century it initially function as a defense fort on the Moscow river bank. Over the 8 centuries of existences it changed both the appearance and the function, but it is still on the same location. The Kremlin was initially built of wood, afterwards re-constructed in white stone and nowadays Moscow boasts the red walls of the Kremlin. The Kremlin is acknowledged by UNESCO as world heritage.
3.The Old Arbat is one of the most famous Moscow's streets. In Soviet period it used to be the place for freedom of speech - this is where politically active and democratic orientated young people used to have their meetings. Nowadays the Old Arbat is a pedestrian zone with tourist boutiques, restaurants and cafes. It is also a performance stage for street artists.
4.The Tretyakov gallery is the leading Moscow museum with an enormous art collection. Tretjakov started it as a private collection of Russian artists of ed 19 beginning 20 century and eventually it had grown into one of the biggest worlds art collection. 5.Vorobevy gory is an area to the North-West of Moscow where one will enjoy the exciting views of Moscow. Additionally there are nice parks and wonderful opportunities for a nice walk. The main building of Moscow State University are also in Vorobevy Gory. It is a fine example of Stalin Empire style in Soviet architecture.

Cuisine is a part of culture and being in Moscow you will definitely try Russian cuisine. This could be different to your usual tastes, but that is the part of playing a tourist. Lean this names beforehand: pelmeni, borsch, seledka pos shuboj, kvas, pirogi.

Borsch is a russian soup with meat and different vegetables (potatoes, cabbage, beet, carrot, onions). Served with sour-creme, garlic and bread. In Russian households it is a daily meal and usually cooked in big portions to be served over couple of days.

Seledka pod shiboj is a special salad where a herring is covered with several layers of boiled vegetables. Very typical dish and you will definitely find it if you are invited to Russian family for a celebration.

Pirogi is little cakes filled with a variety of things or meat, fish, cabbage, potatoes or jam. It is sort of a fast food in Russia and you will find home-made pirogi sold on every corner. In the households pirogi are usually baked on weekends involving whole family.

Pelmeni remind of big raviolis. More dough, more meat. Pelmeni served in any Russian cuisine restaurant and sold in any supermarket. Pelmeni are made only of meat in contrast to raviolis which could be vegetarian. Beware of the distinctive size of pelmeni! If you are asked how many you would like to eat, 20 will mean that you very hungry.

Kvas is traditional non-alcohol beverage. Over summer it is served at every corner, though it would be safe to buy closed bottles in supermarket.

Other Russian dishes are bliny, okroshka, sandwiches with caviar, schi.

In Moscow you will notice the big number of Japanese sushi-bars. This is so exotic for Russian tastes that they became extremely popular.
