If you are looking to become a driver for a Hillside taxi service, the first thing you are going to have to do is find a taxi company that is going to hire you. In order to increase your chances of getting hired, there are a couple of things that you are going to need to ensure are in place before you apply for a position with a company.

First of all, you need a valid driver's license, and papers that prove that you are legally entitled to work. These two items may sound like common sense, but it can be amazing how many people try to get jobs as a cab driver without first accommodating for these two items. After that, there are other things that will increase your chances. You want to have as clean of a driving record as possible, as higher accident rates will make you more expensive to ensure, and in most cases a clean criminal record is also a necessity. If you fit those requirements, and think that you are ready for the toll of driving for most of the day every day, then you can try and get your cab.

Although there are certain drivers, usually those who have been doing it for sometime, who purchase their own cabs, most people lease them from the cab company. Providing the proper documentation is in order you will be able to apply to lease a cab from a company. The lease of the cab usually includes all of the necessary communications equipment, meters, payment equipment, and anything else that you need for the operations of you cab. The maintenance of that cab will be up to you however. Some cab companies may also require you to fill out a competency exam to show that you understand the rules of the road, the rules of the cab company, or any other skills that may be applicable while driving a taxi.

Working for a service, like one of the Hillside taxi services, can be a rewarding and fulfilling career but it takes a certain kind of person to enjoy working for a cab company. For one thing, you're going to have to be a people person, which often means being comfortable with all types of conversation. You will get people of all types coming for rides in your taxi and some of them may be difficult to deal with but, as long as you are good with people, you should be able to manage anything.
